(Luke 2:41-52) The thing about this passage that sticks out to me is the very idea that Jesus was 12 and knew who his real father was, but what about all the time before that. I have to believe that Jesus always knew he was more than human. It completely blows me away to think how God, in all His wisdom, could be contained in a child. Did he cry as a baby when trying to communicate his needs? I can only imagine that Christ let himself be limited by the child’s body that contained him. I wonder also, taking into account this very story, if Mary and Joseph perhaps forgot a little bit who Jesus really was? If as a child there weren’t visible signs of the power of God within Jesus, maybe that’s why they responded as they did when they found Jesus in the temple. Maybe they were raising the Christ child as anyone would raise a child.
